Air Vents and Neutralization Units

Air vents are small air cells that discharge, automatically or manually, air collecting at the highest points of an installation; neutralization units are compact units that neutralize the acidic condensate produced by condensing boilers using a granular media bed before it is sent to drainage. At Denfor Endüstriyel, we supply both pieces of equipment in capacities suited to boiler room and manifold/radiator-top applications.

Why it matters

What do air vents and neutralization units do?

One discharges air from the installation; the other makes the acidic condensate of a condensing boiler safe to send to drainage.

Automatically discharges air from the installation

Air vents automatically expel air collecting at the highest points of the installation, such as above manifolds and radiators, preserving circulation.

Makes condensate safe for drainage

The condensate produced by condensing boilers is acidic (around pH 3-5); the neutralization unit passes this water through a granular media bed, raising its pH to meet drainage standards.

Protects the drainage system and the environment

Unneutralized acidic condensate can corrode metal pipes and drainage lines over time; the neutralization unit removes this risk.

Compact, easy-to-maintain design

Air vents are small in volume and maintenance-free; the granular media in neutralization units is periodically checked and renewed.

Types

Subtypes

Both are complementary small items of equipment throughout the boiler room and installation; what differs is their function.

AUTOMATIC

Automatic air vent

With a float mechanism, it continuously discharges collected air without human intervention; suited to mounting above manifolds and radiators.

  • Continuous automatic discharge
  • Maintenance-free
  • Mounted above manifolds/radiators
MANUAL

Manual air vent/valve

Low-cost, simple air discharge points opened and closed by hand; preferred in small installations and at initial commissioning.

  • Economical solution
  • Suited to initial commissioning
  • Simple design
NEUTRALIZATION

Condensate neutralization unit

Neutralizes the acidic condensate of a condensing boiler by passing it through a granular media bed; capacity is chosen according to boiler power.

  • Granular-media neutralization
  • Capacity sized to boiler power
  • Compliance with drainage standards

Selection criteria

What data determines the right air vent / neutralization unit?

Selection cannot be made without the first two items. The rest determine capacity and installation method.

FAQ

Questions from the field

The questions we encounter most often at the air vent and neutralization unit quote stage.

Which boilers need a neutralization unit?

For condensing boilers, because the condensate is acidic, a neutralization unit is generally required by regulation or the water authority for installations above a certain power threshold; this should be checked on a per-project basis.

When does the granular media need replacing?

Depending on the boiler's operating hours and condensate volume, it is recommended to check once a year and renew it if needed.

What is the difference between an automatic and a manual air vent?

The automatic type continuously and spontaneously discharges air via a float mechanism; the manual type is a more economical solution that must be opened and closed by hand periodically.

Where should an air vent be installed?

It should be installed at the highest points where air naturally collects (above manifolds, above radiators, the high corners of the installation).

Do you only serve Istanbul?

No. While our office is on Istanbul's Anatolian side (Ataşehir), we supply and ship across Istanbul's European side, the surrounding provinces and the Marmara region, and Turkey as a whole — covering your equipment end to end, from a single source.
