Bag Filters

Bag filters are filtration equipment that capture suspended solids from liquid lines using a bag-shaped filter element housed inside a pressurized shell. Since they offer a much larger capture surface than cartridge filters, they require element replacement less often on high-flow lines; supplied with single or multi-bag housings, in carbon steel or stainless steel, for process and feed water lines.

Why it matters

What does a bag filter do?

With a large filtration surface, it captures suspended solids on high-flow lines and reduces how often the element needs replacing.

High capture capacity through a large surface

The large surface area of the bag filter can capture far more fouling at the same flow rate than a cartridge filter, extending filter life.

Wide micron rating range

With bag options ranging from 1 µm to 200 µm, it offers a single-housing solution from coarse pre-filtration to fine final filtration.

Quick, easy bag replacement

The housing lid is opened, the soiled bag is removed and a new one fitted; the process is completed quickly without any special equipment.

Boosts process and equipment protection

Installed upstream of sensitive equipment such as pumps, valves and heat exchangers, it keeps abrasive or clogging particulates out of the system.

Types

Bag filter subtypes

All three use a bag element; what differs is bag count and housing material.

STANDARD

Single-bag filter

The standard solution providing economical filtration with a compact housing for low-to-medium-flow lines.

  • Compact housing
  • Economical solution
  • Low-to-medium flow
HIGH FLOW

Multi-bag filter

Multiple bag pockets increase filtration capacity while keeping pressure drop low on high-flow lines.

  • High flow capacity
  • Low pressure drop
  • Suited to industrial lines
HYGIENIC

Stainless bag filter

Supplied with a corrosion-resistant stainless housing for food, beverage and chemical process applications.

  • Stainless housing
  • Suited to food/chemical processes
  • Easy to clean

Selection criteria

What data determines the right bag filter?

Selection cannot be made without the first two items. The rest determine housing material and bag count.

ParameterWhy it mattersWhat we need from you

Flow rate

Calculated from the line's hourly or instantaneous requirement.

m³/h

Required micron rating

The bag is chosen according to the smallest particle size to be captured.

FAQ

Questions from the field

The questions we encounter most often at the bag filter quote stage.

What is the difference between a bag filter and a cartridge filter?

Thanks to the bag's large surface area, a bag filter captures more fouling at the same flow rate than a cartridge filter and needs replacing less often; cartridge filters are generally preferred for finer final filtration.

When should the bag be replaced?

The bag should be replaced once the inlet-outlet pressure difference (differential pressure) reaches a set threshold; this value varies with flow rate and fouling load.

Which micron rating should be chosen?

It is determined by the tolerance of the equipment being protected (pump, valve, heat exchanger); a 50-200 µm range is preferred for coarse pre-filtration, and 1-25 µm for finer protection.

When is a multi-bag housing needed?

A single bag can increase pressure drop on high-flow lines; a multi-bag housing meets the same flow rate with a lower pressure drop and requires replacement at longer intervals.

Do you only serve Istanbul?

No. While our office is on Istanbul's Anatolian side (Ataşehir), we supply and ship across Istanbul's European side, the surrounding provinces and the Marmara region, and Turkey as a whole — covering your equipment end to end, from a single source.
