Provides fast opening and closing
A butterfly valve needs only a 90° quarter-turn; a ball valve likewise switches quickly between fully open and fully closed, losing no time when an emergency shutoff is needed.

Butterfly and ball valves are used to open and close a line quickly and with a complete seal. Butterfly valves offer low weight and low cost on large-diameter lines, while ball valves offer a full-bore advantage at small diameters. As Denfor Endüstriyel, we supply flanged, wafer and threaded connection valves, with body and sealing materials matched to line pressure, temperature and fluid type.

Why it matters
Opening and closing the line quickly and with a complete seal is the standard solution for main line shutoff and equipment isolation.
A butterfly valve needs only a 90° quarter-turn; a ball valve likewise switches quickly between fully open and fully closed, losing no time when an emergency shutoff is needed.
With the right sealing material (NBR, EPDM, PTFE, etc.), a complete shutoff is achieved even under line pressure, safely isolating the line during maintenance or a fault.
Depending on the existing line's connection type, you can choose flanged, wafer (clamped between two flanges) or, at small diameters, threaded connections — all easing installation.
It can be operated manually in the field, or remotely via an electric or pneumatic actuator connected to the automation system.
Types
Both are used to shut off the line; what sets them apart is the diameter range and the bore structure.
The disc-shaped closing element provides low weight, low cost and easy installation on large-diameter lines; widely used in water, air and process lines.
The spherical element inside offers a bore equal to the line diameter when fully open; provides a fully sealed shutoff with low pressure loss at small-to-medium diameters.
Connected to the automation system by adding an electric or pneumatic actuator; used on lines that need remote opening/closing or system integration.
Selection criteria
Selection isn't possible without the first two items. The rest determine the connection type and equipment.
Line diameter
Determined by the nominal diameter of the existing pipeline.
DN size
Pressure class
The PN class is chosen to match the line's operating pressure.
PN6 / 10 / 16 / 25
Fluid type and temperature
Determines the sealing material (NBR, EPDM, PTFE, etc.).
°C + fluid type
Connection type
Whether the existing line is flanged, suited to wafer, or threaded.
Flanged / wafer / threaded
Operation type
Whether manual or an electric/pneumatic actuated model is wanted.
Manual / actuated
Body material
Cast or stainless body is chosen based on the fluid and ambient conditions.

The questions we hear most often when quoting butterfly and ball valves.
In a butterfly valve, a disc-shaped element rotates; it is economical and lightweight at large diameters. In a ball valve, the spherical element offers a bore equal to the line diameter when fully open; it gives full flow and a low pressure loss advantage at small-to-medium diameters.
A wafer-type valve has no flange of its own and is installed clamped between two pipe flanges; it is lighter and more economical than the flanged type, but removing it requires separating the line at one point.
An electric or pneumatic actuated model is preferred when the valve needs to be opened and closed remotely or via an automation system, or at points where field access is difficult.
The choice is made among materials such as NBR, EPDM, PTFE or Viton based on the fluid's type, temperature and chemical effect; choosing the wrong material leads to early leakage.
